The Armory Park Farmers Market in Providence returns on June 11 from 3 to 7 p.m., kicking off the summer season with a special Caribbean Heritage Celebration. Hosted at Hollywood Road and Parade Street, the event features live music, storytelling, cooking demonstrations, and Caribbean cuisine from JA Patty, alongside regular local vendors. This marks the first Concert in the Park of the year, presented by Farm Fresh RI, the West Broadway Neighborhood Association, and Moniker Brewery.
Meanwhile, the Mile of History Association will hold its annual Spring Event in June at the historic Old State House on Benefit Street, with the exact date to be announced. The event offers a chance to explore Providence’s rich history, including the Old State House’s recent restoration and its significance as the site where Rhode Island declared independence from Britain on May 4, 1776. Food and drink will be provided, welcoming all interested in the city’s heritage.
In other news, Alexis Gorriarán has been named executive director of the Providence Tourism Council. A longtime leader in the city’s tourism and cultural sectors, Gorriarán has contributed over 20 years to destination marketing and event production, including major initiatives like Illuminate PVD and the Rhode Island Illuminated Night Parade. His appointment is seen as a positive step for advancing Providence’s cultural and tourism profile.
