Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, Governor Dan McKee, and other officials inaugurated the official FIFA World Cup 2026 FanZone at Station Park, marking the start of Rhode Island’s Summer of Soccer. The free event, running from June 11 to July 19, will broadcast every World Cup match on a giant screen and offer live entertainment, cultural programming, food trucks, interactive games, and a beverage garden. Located between Providence Place Mall and the Amtrak/MBTA station, the FanZone aims to attract thousands of visitors worldwide while highlighting Providence’s arts, culture, dining, and hospitality.
Opening day featured live match viewings and entertainment, including games like Mexico vs. South Africa. The FanZone will also host themed events celebrating teams such as Ghana, Germany, Canada, and Scotland, alongside cultural festivities tied to citywide events like WaterFire and Rhode Island PrideFest. Officials emphasized the FanZone’s role in boosting local businesses and tourism, leveraging Providence’s proximity to Boston Stadium. The initiative is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Southern New England, generating significant economic benefits and showcasing Providence as a vibrant, welcoming city.
El alcalde de Providence, Brett Smiley, junto con el gobernador Dan McKee y otros funcionarios locales, inauguraron la PVD FanZone en Station Park, un espacio oficial designado por la FIFA para la Copa Mundial 2026. Este evento gratuito, que se extenderá del 11 de junio al 19 de julio, ofrecerá transmisiones en vivo de todos los partidos en una pantalla gigante, además de entretenimiento, programación cultural, food trucks, juegos interactivos y una zona de bebidas alcohólicas. La FanZone, ubicada entre Providence Place Mall y la estación de trenes Amtrak/MBTA, se espera que atraiga a miles de visitantes internacionales y destaque la oferta cultural, gastronómica y turística de la ciudad.
La apertura incluyó partidos de México vs. Sudáfrica y Corea del Sur vs. Chequia, y durante el torneo se realizarán actividades temáticas y celebraciones culturales vinculadas a equipos como Ghana, Alemania, Canadá, Escocia y Portugal. Estas acciones forman parte del programa “Summer of Soccer” de Rhode Island, que busca impulsar la economía local y posicionar a Providence como un destino clave durante el Mundial. Funcionarios destacaron la importancia de esta iniciativa para mostrar la diversidad y hospitalidad de la región, anticipando un impacto económico significativo en el sur de Nueva Inglaterra.
