Deer Tick, Rhode Island’s acclaimed rock band, released their new album Coin-O-Matic on June 5, offering a raw and honest tribute to Providence. Named after the former Federal Hill headquarters of mob boss Raymond Patriarca, the album captures the city’s working-class struggles with themes of loss, redemption, and resilience. The band members—John McCauley, Ian O’Neil, Dennis Ryan, and Christopher Ryan—self-produced the record in their home studio, marking a departure from relying on outside producers and showcasing their collaborative spirit. McCauley, who recently returned to Rhode Island after a decade in Nashville, describes the album as a homecoming and a reflection of the city’s gritty character. Musically, Coin-O-Matic blends rock and country influences, featuring songs like the lead single “Mary Singletary,” a confessional rocker gaining traction on indie radio. The album paints Providence not as a polished city but as a tough, resilient place filled with complex stories. Deer Tick is touring this summer, starting with three release shows in Matunuck, Rhode Island.
