ACT selects first cohort of Providence writers to attend the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA

In winter 2026, ACT launched a scholarship program in partnership with the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown, Massachusetts, to support four Providence writers attending a weeklong summer writing workshop at FAWC free of charge. The inaugural recipients—Justice Ameer, Sean Richardson, Vikki Warner, and Ellen Zahniser—were selected by a panel of local writers and ACT staff. Each scholarship covers tuition, housing, and includes a $500 stipend to offset transportation and food expenses.
FAWC’s summer workshops feature nationally recognized instructors and offer 36 week-long creative writing sessions over nine weeks, along with public readings and artist talks. The selected writers represent diverse genres: Ameer is an accomplished poet and political educator; Richardson writes creative nonfiction and essays; Warner is a memoirist and essayist with a background in publishing; and Zahniser is a performance writer and performing artist. This initiative aims to foster local literary talent by providing access to prestigious development opportunities at FAWC.
