Mayor Brett Smiley and FirstWorks have announced the first performers for PVDFest 2026, Providence’s signature arts festival set for September 18-19 in Downtown Providence. The festival will feature music, performance, food, visual art, and cultural experiences across key locations including Kennedy Plaza, Burnside Park, and the streets around City Hall. Headlining the event is Big Freedia, the renowned New Orleans artist known as the Queen of Bounce, who will perform on the main stage on September 19 at 8:30 pm. Other announced performers include Grammy Award-winning Fox Point native Butch Tavares, a key figure in American R&B and soul, and La Excelencia, an internationally acclaimed salsa orchestra.
Ahead of the main festival, a PVDFest Spotlight event will take place on June 27 at the PVD FanZone at Station Park from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This preview will feature live music, interactive activities, and a chance to sample a new PVDFest-inspired ice cream flavor. The event will also host FIFA World Cup watch parties. Officials emphasized PVDFest’s role in celebrating Providence’s creativity and diversity while bringing the community together.
El alcalde de Providence, Brett Smiley, junto al concejal Juan Pichardo y el Departamento de Arte, Cultura y Turismo, en colaboración con FirstWorks, anunciaron a los primeros artistas confirmados para PVDFest 2026, el festival emblemático de la ciudad que celebra el arte, la cultura y la comunidad. El evento se realizará el 18 y 19 de septiembre en el centro de Providence, abarcando espacios como Kennedy Plaza, Burnside Park y las calles alrededor del Ayuntamiento. La artista internacional Big Freedia, reconocida como la Reina del Bounce por su enérgico estilo y su influencia en la música de Nueva Orleans, encabezará el festival con una presentación el sábado 19 a las 8:30 p.m. También participarán Butch Tavares, ganador del Grammy y nativo de Fox Point, y La Excelencia, una destacada orquesta de salsa dura con reconocimiento internacional.
