WaterFire Providence honored three distinguished Rhode Islanders at its 9th Annual FireBall Gala with Impact Awards recognizing their significant contributions to the community. Valerie Tutson received the Creative Impact Award for her work as a nationally acclaimed storyteller and cultural artist. Tutson uses storytelling rooted in African traditions and diasporic heritage to connect diverse audiences, educate, and inspire. She is a founding member of the Rhode Island Black Storytellers and has led workshops and performances across the U.S. and abroad.
J.L. “Lynn” Singleton earned the Civic Impact Award for his transformative leadership as President of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) since 1983. Singleton revitalized PPAC from financial distress to a premier nonprofit theater, enhancing local tourism and arts accessibility. His achievements include multiple leadership awards, founding a successful theatrical management company, and induction into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 2023.
Cortney Nicolato was honored with the Joseph A. Chazan, M.D. Community Impact Award for her role as President and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island. She spearheaded a $100 million investment plan focused on racial equity, education, housing, and economic mobility, reaching its goal ahead of schedule. Nicolato’s leadership emphasizes collaborative, data-driven approaches to community improvement and systemic change.
WaterFire Providence celebró su 9ª Gala Anual FireBall reconociendo con los premios WaterFire Impact a tres destacados líderes de Rhode Island por su contribución significativa a la comunidad. Valerie Tutson recibió el Creative Impact Award por su labor como narradora y artista cultural, utilizando el arte de contar historias para conectar culturas y generaciones, con un enfoque en tradiciones africanas y la diáspora. Tutson es directora ejecutiva del Rhode Island Black Storytellers y ha promovido la diversidad cultural a través de medios y talleres. J.L. Lynn Singleton fue galardonado con el Civic Impact Award por su liderazgo en el Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) desde 1983, transformándolo en uno de los teatros sin fines de lucro más importantes de América del Norte.
